Vermont Man Erects Giant Middle Finger Statue

A Vermont man was so upset about his town's zoning regulations that he erected a 700-pound statue of a middle finger flipping the bird, meant to be giving officials the middle finger. Ted Pelkey's decade-long feud with local officials has reached spiteful new heights when Pelkey installed the statue in his front yard, near route 128. 

This was after his request to relocate his two businesses, a recycling company and a truck repair shop, from a nearby town to his own property was denied. Pelkey says that the reason officials won't let him build a garage is because officials don't like him, and he thinks the middle finger is the perfect response. 


While Pelkey couldn't legally build a garage, he can however flip off officials for all of eternity, legally. “The structure does not meet the statutory definition of ‘sign’ and thus can’t be regulated under the Vermont Billboard Law,” Jacqui DeMen, a spokesperson for the Vermont Agency of Transportation told
