Denver man injured after falling down garbage chute into trash compactor

Denver 7 News (current network of former Jacksonville news anchor, Shannon Ogden) reported that one of the cities residents had a "freak accident." Scott Walsh, 22, was attempting to remove a friends phone from a garbage chute when he fell in head first, landing into a trash compactor at an apartment complex.

The weight of his body caused the machine to activate, breaking both of his legs, fracturing his school and rupturing arteries in his neck. Luckily, doctors say he has no brain or spinal damage after having most of his body crushed by the machine.

Walsh was in the compactor for what his friend Liz DiSalvo says was approximately five minutes.

His friends have started a GoFundMe with a goal of $50,000. A portion of the story shared to the page says: "Many surgeries are needed and he will be out of work for a long time and will need to go through physical therapy. He is very lucky to be alive and he has a long road of recovery ahead of him. He’s currently being taken care of at Denver Health. "
