Mayor Lenny Curry said restaurants, retailers and hotels plan for reopening

Mayor Lenny Curry today announced that businesses such as restaurants, retailers and hotels should start making plans for adding more activity. Curry did not announce a target date for easing restrictions in the Safer at Home order.

Curry did not announce a specific target date, but he said Jacksonville needs to move toward a more normal life while co-existing with the continued presence of COVID-19 in the community. Centers for Disease Control’s guidance for avoiding groups of more than 10 people will continue in Jacksonville. Large gatherigns like concerts will remain off-limits.

Watch the media briefing from today, Monday April 27th with Mayor Lenny Curry and emergency management team leaders fromJaxReady, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, and theJacksonville Fire Rescue Departmentwhere they touched on these and other questions:

➡️Positive test rate still falling: Over the last three weeks, that percentage has dropped from a high of 6.3% on April 6 to its low of 4.6% today. As we’ve discussed frequently in the past few weeks, this data—combined with the manageable occupancy levels at our local hospitals—demonstrates that we are on the right track in Jacksonville.

➡️$1,000 stimulus being voted on by City Council: Last Friday, Council Vice President Tommy Hazouri and the Mayor filed a $159 million relief package with the City Council. These dollars will address individual relief, sustained testing in every corner of our city, and many other economic stimulus measures that will benefit businesses and nonprofit entities struggling during this time.

➡️Partnership with FIS: They are assisting in this effort by issuing the $1,000 preloaded pay cards to ensure that recipients get the money as quickly as possible, and without having to absorb added fees.
