The Spelling Of This Girl's Otherwise Normal Name Will Leave You Shook

When it comes to naming a child, some parents go with a traditional name while others choose something a little more unique. Well one couple in Australia got the best of both worlds by selecting a somewhat common name for their daughter only they gave it a one-of-a-kind spelling. The results are up for debate but the baby's mom seems pretty pleased with them, so much so that she shared how she came up with the distinctive moniker with her local newspaper.

The parents picked the name Kaitlyn for their little girl. Considered Irish in origin, it comes from the name Catherine, which means pure. But rather than spell the name normally, they decided to replace the "ait" with "VIII," the Roman numeral for eight.

The proud mom told the paper, "I've always loved the name Kaitlyn but hated how popular it is. So when I found out I was having a girl, my husband suggested we replace the 'ait' with the Roman numeral symbol for eight. Now our daughter is truly unique."

It doesn't seem like they have any plans to change it.
