Since September, Australia has been experiencing one of the deadliest natural disasters as bushfires continue to spread across the country, claiming the lives of at least 20 people and causing an estimated one billion of the nation’s wildlife to perish as a result of the blaze.
To give back, Blink-182 recently unveiled an exclusive merchandise collection, with all proceeds going toward the Australian Zoo, an organization providing medical care and rehabilitation to impacted wildlife whose habitats have been destroyed in the inferno.
“Australia is being ravaged by deadly fires, and we just feel so helpless,” the band tweeted. “We put out a new merch line + donating all proceeds to charity. Let’s do our part to make sure everyone, the environment, plus all of these kangaroos & koala bears are safe.”
In an update, Mark Hoppus revealed the products brought in over $20,000 within the first 24 hours. “Thanks to your support and generosity we’ve already raised more than $20,000 to help the animals devastated by the fires in Australia,” Hoppus tweeted. “Let’s keep it going!”
Like Blink, other bands and musicians have been inspired to support Australia amid the ongoing disaster. Earlier this month, Metallica donated over $500,000 toward bushfire relief efforts, Elton John pitched in a whopping $1 million contribution, and Lizzo even took a break in between her concert show in the nation to volunteer at Australia’s Food Bank to help fire victims.
