Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence revealed that he asked his agent to call ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter to make sure that a recent trade rumor wasn't true while appearing on Monday's episode of Up & Adams with Kay Adams.

Lawrence, 25, who has a no-trade clause in his contract, was rumored to be targeted by the quarterback-needy Pittsburgh Steelers, which was denied personally to Lawrence by newly hired head coach Liam Coen. as well as publicly shut down by a Jaguars source who told ESPN's Michael DiRocco that there was "no chance" that the team would trade the former No. 1 overall pick.

“You kind of think, I have a no-trade clause in my contract. I would know about it if I was getting traded or if that was something that was going to happen,” Lawrence told Adams on Monday. “I’d have to be on board with it, which I’m not. I’m happy here in Jacksonville. We want to win a Super Bowl here and I think we can do that. “My agent reached out to Adam Schefter and was just like, ‘hey, you hear anything about this?’ Liam texted me the day after it came out and said ‘I shouldn’t even have to say this, but that’s not coming from us.’ He didn’t even have to send that. There was no doubt on my side.”

Lawrence has gone 22-38 in 50 regular seasons starts for the Jaguars since his rookie season, which included a playoff and Pro Bowl appearance in 2022. The former Clemson University standout was limited to 2,045 yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions on 172 of 284 passing after suffering a season-ending concussion during his 11th game in December.

The Steelers' reported inquiry came after the team split starts between quarterback Russell Wilson and Justin Fields during a season that ultimately ended with a Wild Card Round loss to the AFC North Division rival Baltimore Ravens. Both Wilson, who signed a one-year contract last offseason, and Fields, who was acquired in a trade with the Chicago Bears, are set to hit the free agent market next month.
