President Donald Trump's approval rating among Black voters has reportedly seen a significant decline since the 2024 election, according to recent polls.
Decision Desk HQ, which aggregates various polls, found that Trump's average approval rating was reported to be 24.1% and his disapproval rating was reported to be at an average of 71.5% among African American voters, having begun his term with a 35% approval rating and 44% disapproval rating in January. A survey published by the Economist/YouGov this week also showed that only 15% of Black voters approved of the president's job performance, having decreased by 5% from the previous month.
Black voters overwhelmingly supported Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, however, Trump accounted for 15% of the voting population, which was significant progress for the Republican Party and nearly doubled his support from his 2020 election loss, according to a Pew Research Center study. The support, however, has significantly weakened in the months following his inauguration, according to Scott Tranter, the director of data science for Decision Desk HQ.
“We’ve seen his overall approval rating go down. And that’s got to come from somewhere. The African American vote is his newest vote, and that’s probably going to be the first to go,” Tranter said.
Trump's overall approval rating was reported to be at a 44.5% average, with his disapproval rating at 51.6%, according to Decision Desk HQ.
