Monroe County, FL - A North Carolina woman tragically died in a boating accident in the Florida Keys after the vessel she was on collided with an anchored sailboat in Buttonwood Sound.

The accident in the Florida Keys resulted in the death of a 24-year-old woman from North Carolina.

Authorities say the victim, identified as Sydney Cole, of Fuquay Varina, was aboard a 21-foot Century Bay boat that collided with an anchored sailboat in Buttonwood Sound on Friday night.

The impact ejected Cole and three others into the water.

While the U.S. Coast Guard rescued three individuals, including an injured woman from Oakland Park, the search for Cole involved multiple agencies, including the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), the National Park Service, and the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Tragically, Cole's body was later recovered.

The two occupants of the sailboat, hailing from Yorktown, Virginia, were unharmed.

The FWC is currently investigating the cause of the crash.
