Milton Leaves Path Of Destruction In Florida, Death Count Rises

(Miami, FL) -- Millions are without power and at least eleven people are dead as Hurricane Milton exits Florida. Milton made landfall last night as a powerful Category 3 hurricane just south of Sarasota.

Governor Ron DeSantis says Milton was significant but it wasn't the worst case scenario that forecasters feared.

At least 19 tornadoes spawned by Milton touched down. Millions remain at risk today for deadly flash floods.

At 200 PM EDT the center of post-tropical cyclone Milton will continue to move away from the east coast of Florida and pass north of the northwestern Bahamas this afternoon.

Satellite-derived wind data indicate Milton has become a powerful post-tropical cyclone with maximum sustained winds near 75 mph (120 km/h) with higher gusts. Gradual weakening is expected during the next several days.
