Miami-Dade Powering Up With The Sun

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava unveiling a large-scale solar installation at the Metro West Detention Center on Tamiami Trail. The new rooftop array includes 1700 panels. With the installation of these panels, the detention center is set to reduce its carbon footprint substantially. The anticipated elimination stands at 880 tons of carbon emissions, equivalent to the emissions produced by 196 gas-powered cars or 111 households.

The final project in this solar initiative series is the South Dade Regional Library, a significant step in the county’s broader solar transition. Moreover, the mayor is also eyeing the airport as another significant project for solar installation. Each new project brings the county one step closer to its overarching goal – a complete transition to solar power in all its buildings.
