WATCH: Osceola Sheriff Arrested on Racketeering Charges

Prosecutors say Osceola Sheriff Marcos Lopez was part of a massive illegal gambling operation bringing in more than $20 million dollars a year. The operation was discovered in a joint state-federal investigation in 2023. State Attorney General James Uthmeier says Lopez tapped into it for cash and campaign contributions, then helped it expand and shielded it from law enforcement.

Uthmeier says more indictments are coming.

Governor DeSantis has suspended Lopez and named FHP's top trooper in Central Florida, Chrisopher Blackmon, as sheriff.
