(Jacksonville, FL) - Florida's First Lady, Casey DeSantis, joined her husband, the governor, Wednesday to announce historic funding to fight pediatric cancer. As a breast cancer survivor, she highlighted the cancer innovation fund for pediatric cancer the Governor approved in the state budget.
The governor also said the new budget for the Casey DeSantis Cancer Research Program is funded to almost $130 million dollars which will enhance the quality and effectiveness of cancer care across Florida. Also, $60 million for the Florida Cancer Innovation Fund to further bolster cancer research and treatment.
DeSantis says she is grateful that the legislature joined the governor in providing historic funding to fight the second leading cause of death in Florida - specifically lung, breast and prostate.
Governor DeSantis says families don't need to fly around the country or the world for the best cancer care and treatment. He says Florida has the best four facilities in Jacksonville, Gainesville, Tampa and Miami.
Casey was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021 and is now considered cancer-free.
