(Miami, FL) - A Miami-Dade jury has deadlocked in the second-degree murder trial of Rashaun Jones, 40, of Lake City. He is a former University of Miami football player charged with killing his teammate Bryan Pata nearly 20-years ago.

The judge declared a mistrial Monday morning. The jury last deliberated on Thursday and then took a three-day hiatus.

Prosecutors introduced a witness and phone records that put Rashaun Jones outside Pata's Kendall apartment the night of the murder and friends who pointed to bad blood between the two.

Jones' defense argued the evidence was all circumstantial.

This Jones' first trial and it is unclear if the state will seek a retrial.
